need a name for new rosy

Post by frogmom on Thu Nov 10, 2011 4:45 pm

[b] oh ! do those photos ever do your snake justice !!!!!!!!!!!
I think it may be prettier than mine ! IMPOSSIBLE !!!!!!
( you take better photos... LOL ... )
I named my Baja Rosy " Copper " due to the coloring and I can't remember longer names any more ! )
the first name that comes to mind for yours is " Buckskin ", but that isn't quite right.
My other Rosy is anmed " Stripe ", so that name is taken. ( it was Humphrey Boagart, but like I said, too long for me to remember)
Paris, your photography overwhelms me. Aren't you glad you got this guy / gal ??????

OK.... names...... Tanner, Roseanna, Callie,Octie ( october ),Sagittarious ( if that is this months sign ),Bogurt, Tucker, Susie, Boe, Rose, .

Hey ? is this snake a boy or girl or don't you care. In which case, what do you choose for it to be ??????

I love your forum. No trolls giving us any trouble. Not much going on so we have plenty of off-line time to play with our Rosies ! cheers

talk later ... RoseAnna ( who is really Frogmom in disguise :face: )

Thanks! I love taking photos of stuff Smile

My hubby came up with a name that I think I may use for him: Boaz. Found out that "she" is actually a "he". (presence of big, hooked spurs is almost a guarantee that it is a male. Something unique to rosy's apparently)

I hope we get more members soon! Smile

rosy names

Post by frogmom on Thu Nov 10, 2011 8:43 pm

[b]
Boaz is good name.... the spurs are left over from when snakes had legs.
Yes, only found on the rosy boas, although I thought the females had them too .
I will have to clarify this point. If only on the males, I don't see why the breeder I bought from felt it necessary to " POP " my guy in front of me.
At the time I didn't know much ( still learning ) and popping him was very good proof that he was a male.

My copper is SUCH A NUT !!!!! EVERY single time I go in the room he comes slithering to the top of the cage and follows me around begging to come out.
He loves to play in my robe while I watch TV... I have held him for an hour and he never tires of it.
The other , named STRIPE. is a mexican ( black & cream stripes ) and he loves to be out too but he mostly lays in the crook of my arm.
I am still learning your site. I am so unfamiliar with internetting that it takes me a lot of trial and error.
I will go PM a couple friends right now and see what happens. Smile RoseAnna ( aka FROGMOM!!!!!!! )

Actually all snake classified as boides have spurs whether they are male or female. Wink
FYI boides are boas and pythons.

lol I posted this a year ago. Struggling to get this forum off the ground...

Anyway, I had spoken with some rosy breeders and 'pros' who told me he was a male. Apparently they differ from other boas in that the spurs are rarely present in females. When they do occur, there is often only one spur. Sometimes they can have two, but they are smaller and not curved.
