My DIY Crested Gecko Vivarium

Post by Pareeeee on Wed Sep 12, 2012 11:24 am

I overhauled Rodney's tank a while ago.

Enclosure is an old aquarium, placed on its end.

Background is industrial styrofoam cut and shaped, 100% silicone caulking was used to attach it to the back. Then coconut husk and moss was attached onto a layer of silicone caulking. Hidden flowerpot in the foam backing for planting.

Door and 'front' are made from plexiglass. Holes at the top were drilled for ventilation.

Substrate: Bottom layer is comprised of aquarium grade large pebbles mixed with activated carbon. On top of that is a plastic grate with fibreglass screen placed on top. Top layers consist of a mixture of peat moss, sand, compost and sphagnum. Expanding repti moss added for barrier, humidity and aesthetic purposes.

Plants: Pothos, parlour palm, drecaena.

Branches and sticks attached in foam backing for climbing.

Awesome, are you using a bio-active enclosure?

first time I tried it with the original door it was a little difficult, this time it was much easier. You have to be careful not to press too hard or you will crack the plexi. Glad you like his viv Wink
