Who else has fish?

Post by Pareeeee on Mon Aug 20, 2012 9:56 am

Currently I own two aquariums. One is a 33 gallon, freshwater, fully planted, tropical tank. It houses many species including three types of rainbowfish, SAE's, Marble Cats, tetras, etc. The other is a small tank housing an unusually over-aggressive male cichlid (believe he's a crossbreed) by himself.

I have more than 10 years experience with freshwater tropical fish-keeping. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

33gal

Anyone else have fishies?

I have one little neon tetra in an 8by8 fluval cube.
It is actually kinda sad to see him swim around by himself all day.
Pics tomorrow!!!

8" x 8"? I would only recommend something that small for a betta, and some people would even frown on me for saying that. Recommended minimum tank size is 24" for neons and there needs to be more than one. Neons are schooling fish. They don't really do well alone. Most people think because they are small they can be put in tiny tanks.

The only reason I have my cichlid alone is because he is unusually and excessively aggressive. (not a great idea to create cross-breed cichlids) I've had him since my african cichlid-keeping days. He killed most of his other tankmates including his own mate.

I had about twenty of them years and years ago but this is the last one. I fear he may be in his last days. I could put him in a spare 5 gallon for the remainder of his life?
I fear he may only have a couple more months. :<

Pretty aquarium Pareeee !!!!
I have a 55 galon with large goldfish that came in for the winter from the outside pond. They are BIG and yet the small nasty electric yellow african cichlid herds them all into one corner !

African Cichlids are SO mean. I had a few years ago and ended up with one in about 10 different tanks. LOL
